The Project
AkzoNobel’s paint plant in Ashington, Northumberland is a £100m world class facility, home to brands such as Dulux and Cuprinol, and one of the most sustainable plants every built.
The Requirement
AkzoNobel required flame arresters in the tank vent lines to stop the propagation of flames from tank to tank, or further downstream into the factory, should the flammable vapours from the paint chemicals become ignited.
The Solution
Elmac’s UCA flame arresters were selected as they offered the client peace of mind in the worst case scenario involving unstable detonation conditions. The UCA unit features bi-directional protection which is essential in this type of applications. The low pressure drop through the arrester also ensures that the integrity of the vessels is not compromised during normal operation.
